How to Choose the Best Kitchen and Joinery Company in Sydney

A new kitchen is one of the few commissions you live inside every day. It sets the rhythm of your mornings and the mood of every gathering, so it deserves more than a comparison of brochures.

Sydney has many capable kitchen and joinery companies, and the best one for your home depends on your home. These are the questions we’d ask in your position. We answer them for ourselves at the end, and we encourage you to put them to everyone you meet, ourselves included.

1. Can you see their finished work, up close?

A photograph of a whole room tells you about the style. A close-up tells you about the standard. Look at how stone meets cabinetry, whether the reveals stay even along a full run of doors, and how a curve or a mitre has been resolved. Ask to see a completed residence similar to yours.

You can explore our own projects and our materials, up close.

2. Who makes it, and who installs it?

Ask where the joinery is made and who will be in your home on installation day. When design, manufacture and installation sit with one team, one business answers for the result, and the people who crafted your joinery are the people who fit it.

3. Will you see detailed drawings before anything is made?

Shop drawings show every cabinet, handle and finish before any material is cut. They’re where you discover that a drawer meets a handle, or that the pantry could be deeper, while the change is still a line on a page. Ask to see an example.

4. Can they name the materials?

The word premium means little until it has a name. Ask which board and finish your doors will use, which hardware runs your drawers and hinges, and which stone will sit on your benchtop. Then ask to handle the samples. The difference between finishes is far easier to feel than to describe.

5. Is their licence current?

In New South Wales, you can check a builder or tradesperson licence online through Service NSW. It shows the licence holder, the type of licence and its current status. Ask every company for its licence number, and look it up.

6. What do their clients say about the difficult moments?

Read their Google reviews, and look beyond the star rating. The most useful reviews describe how a team communicated, how it treated the home, and how it handled the unexpected. Every renovation holds a surprise or two. What matters is how they’re resolved.

7. Do they ask about you?

Notice what happens at the first consultation. A considered designer asks how you cook, who gathers at the island, and what never quite has a place to live. When the conversation is about your life before it’s about cabinets, you’re in good hands.

8. Can they carry the standard through the home?

If wardrobes, vanities or a laundry may follow, ask whether the same door profile, colour and hardware can carry through. Considering the whole residence from the first drawing is how a home comes to feel composed as one.

The questions to bring to every consultation

  • Where is the joinery made, and who installs it?
  • Can I see a completed project similar to mine?
  • Will I approve detailed shop drawings before anything is made?
  • Which materials, finishes and hardware do you use, by name?
  • What is your licence number?
  • Can I handle samples before I decide?

How we answer them

GB Interiors draws on 15+ years of premium craftsmanship. We design with you, precision-machine every panel on CNC equipment in our own Sydney facility, and install with our own team. Every cabinet, handle and finish is drawn and refined with you before any material is cut.

Our doors are finished in polyurethane in any Dulux colour, or in Polytec and Laminex surfaces. Drawers, hinges and lift systems run on Blum hardware, and benchtops are natural marble, porcelain or engineered stone. You’re welcome to handle every sample at your consultation, or at a private appointment in Brookvale. Ask us for our NSW contractor licence number, and look it up.
